Sixteen research projects of the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) have won financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), according to a recent published announcement on the list of NSFC-sponsored research projects for the year of 2022.
The NSFC-sponsored projects are distributed in four divisions including mathematics, chemistry, engineering and materials, and information. The projects cover research interests such as computational solid mechanics, turbulence and flow stability, multi-scale mechanical biology, multi field coupling and intelligent structural mechanics, optical field regulation and nonlinear optics, catalytic chemistry, electrochemistry, internal flow fluid mechanics, inorganic non-metallic energy conversion and storage materials, mechanical design, circuits and systems Communication network, computer system structure and hardware technology, robotics and intelligent systems, control theory and technology.
Over the past five years, JI has made steady progress in securing NSFC support for its research projects. The number of sponsored projects and the amount of support have both set historical high, thanks to JI’s continuous efforts to upgrade the quality of research and improve its application work for the NSFC award.
