at Shanghai Jiao Tong University,School of Design

(Full-time, fixed-term post)

Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in China. At the end of 2017, the university integrated high-quality resources in the design fields, and amalgamated three departments, Architecture, Design and Landscape Architecture to establish the School of Design. School of Design pursues a harmonious communion of humanities, arts, science and technology to serve the purpose of equipping elite talents with a social conscience, leadership skills, cosmopolitanism and a truth-seeking spirit.


We currently have over 120 academic and administrative staff, and more than 900 students. Tailored to the needs of design disciplines, the School has started a new initiative by creating practice-oriented academic positions. Currently 7 full-time positions of practice track have been established in the School. To further emphasize design studio teaching and talent development, several Teaching Fellowship positions are now available for research-orientated practitioners around the world with backgrounds in Architecture, Design and Landscape Architecture.

Qualifications


Abide by the laws and regulations in China, the successful candidate is expected to be in good physical and mental health and has a strong interest in pursuing excellence in design studio teaching. The applicant generally should be a senior professional, or more than 3 years of relevant work experience with a PhD degree, or more than 5 years with a Master degree. The above requirements can be adjusted for candidates who possess exceptional talent in a particular field.  


a) Previous experience at reputable design institutions or enterprises, and is relevant to one of the 3 fields of design practice.


b) Enthusiastic about teaching and nurturing students at the School of Design, and able to provide effective guidance throughout design teaching and practice.


c)   Main duties and responsibilities  Strictly abide by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Teaching Regulations and the curriculum requirements of School of Design;


d)  Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and seminars on a defined, specific and sometimes specialized subjects to both undergraduate and graduate students, including teaching plans, course schedules, student performance evaluations, and other documents in accordance with the syllabus;


e)  Participate in preparing project design plans, group tutoring, reviewing reports and presentations as well as academic discussions; responsible for guiding and evaluating students’ design projects, organizing presentations, and archive collection;


f)   Give lectures to graduate and undergraduate students from time to time;


g)   Perform tasks related to discipline development and student enrichment as needed.


h)    Other duties as may be reasonably required by the relevant Department.

  • 1) Application Form for Teaching Fellowship at Shanghai Jiao Tong School of Design

  • 2)  Scanned copy of photo ID or passport

  • 3)  Highest degree certificate

  • 4)  Certificate of professional and technical titles or other documents that can be considered as strong evidence in the application

  • 5)  Portfolio of representative design works


b)   All applications will be reviewed and candidates will be shortlisted for interviews including but not limited to face-to-face interviews, trial lectures, presentations in academic forum on a case-by-case basis.


c)  Candidates will be notified when selected and will proceed with onboarding.

d)   Term of employment is flexible, ranging from six months to one year.


e)   Internationally competitive salary is negotiable.
